Coach Nate Nicholas

PERSONAL

 

Coach Nicholas graduated from Slidell High School in Slidell Louisiana in 1998. He went on to University of Mobile to play soccer from 1998-2003. He is married to Tammy Nicholas of Niceville, FL for 15 years and they have four kids Nehemiah (11), Noah (10), Nathan (9), and Nox (7).

 

PLAYING EXPERIENCE

  • Play HS at Slidell HS from 1994-98
  • Played for Louisiana Elite club team from 1993-98 (State Champions in 98 also Region Semi-finalist)
  • Played at University of Mobile from 1998-2003 (99 National Runner-up; 2001 Semi-finalist; 2003 National Champions
  • Played PDL for the Chicago Eagles in Summer of 2002

 

COACHING EXPERIENCE

 

Coach Nicholas has coached High School and Club in the Mobile area for the last 18 years. He holds a USSF E and USSF D license.

 

CLUB

He has coached at Mobile Soccer Club, Mobile Bay FC, and Mobile United FC. He has led teams to a final four finish in Div.1 in 2013 and a runner-up in Div.1 in 2012. His current team also competed in Region Premier play in 2013 and finished in the top half.

 

HIGH SCHOOL

Coach Nicholas started his career at Alabama School of Math and Sciences where he was the head coach for two years in 2002. He then went to UMS-Wright as an Assistant Coach for two years before moving to Baldwin County High School as Head Coach for a year in 2006. He then made the move back to UMS-Wright as the Head Coach where he spent the last eight years (2007-2014). While at UMS he led his team to four Final Four’s, one runner-up (2007) and two state championships (2010, 2011). He won Press-Register Coach of the year twice (2007, 2010) and Sports Academy Coach of the Year (2010). He has coached two Press Register Players of the Year: Frank Cope and Nicholas Frangos. He has had seven players make the North-South All-Star game and many players make All-Metro and All-State. Coach Nicholas is in his 5th year as Boys Head Soccer Coach & History Teacher at McGill-Toolen Catholic. In 2016 & 2021 he led the Jackets to the State Runner-Up finish.

Varsity Assistant Coach

Daniel Duffey

Coach Duffey is a 2008 graduate of McGill-Toolen, where he played soccer from 2006-2008 as a Right Midfielder and Forward, netting 6 goals for the Varsity team his Senior season. After McGill, Coach Duffey attended the University of Notre Dame where he studied Marketing and History, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2012. While at Notre Dame, he worked in the Athletic Department as a manager with the soccer, football, and lacrosse teams. Coach Duffey served as the McGill Freshman Coach from 2015-2018 and as JV Coach in 2019, earning a total record of 60-9-8 over 77 games. In his free time away from coaching, Coach Duffey can be found hope- lessly waiting for a Notre Dame National Championship, spending the occasional hour at Safety Plus, Inc where he serves as the VP of Marketing, managing his own nonprofit company, The Charity Chase, or failing to break par on the golf course.

 

 

Assistant Coach/Middle School Coach 

Mark Buschmann

Mark Buschmann is a graduate of St. Dominic Catholic School and McGill Toolen Catholic High School. He played competitive soccer for 15 years at the recreational, club, and high school levels. He has coached soccer for the CYO, Mobile United FC, and high school levels for the last 12 years. This is his second stint as a coach for McGill Toolen (2012-2014 seasons). He is a 2013 University of South Alabama graduate and currently works as a registered nurse at Mobile Infirmary.

 

 

Assistant Coach/Middle School Coach

Sam Rehm

Sam Rehm is the assistant JV and assistant Middle School Coach.  Sam played all 5 for McGill-Toolen and served as the Captain of the 2019 Varsity team.  Locally he played club ball with both Mobile Bay FC and Mobile United FC.
